Imagic was founded in 1981 by William FX. Grubb and eight defectors from Atari and Mattel, including Rob Fulop. The company was the second independant game publisher

Imagic grew rapidly, and was slated to go public in Dec, 1982. The public stock offering was withdrawn in the final hour due to Atari pre-announcing their worst quarter ever. The company would later be acquired by Activision.
